Jayapura, Jubi – The National Defense Institute (Lemhannas) held a discussion for participants of the 64th batch of its regular education program in Jayapura City on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. They discussed optimizing the implementation of the blue economy concept to improve the welfare of the Papuan people.
Deputy for National Leadership Education of the Lemhannas Sugeng Santoso said the discussion was held to obtain input related to the implementation of the blue economy concept in Papua. “This panel was attended by various speakers, ranging from academicians, government people, and the security forces,” Sugeng said in Jayapura City on Tuesday.
Sugeng said the participants would study and analyze the various inputs obtained. Furthermore, the participants will make a study to be reported to the leadership of Lemhannas.
“One of Lemhannas’ functions is to prepare studies to be submitted to the government, to be further used in policymaking on improving national resilience,” he said.
Sugeng added that there were various inputs related to the concept of a blue economy that emerged in the discussion. One of them is the need for support from relevant stakeholders or the central government to optimize the utilization of Papua’s natural marine wealth.
“For example, supports in the form of human resource development, as well as direct disbursement of budget for the fisheries sector. It is hoped that fish can be managed and directly exported from Papua. These efforts certainly require studies, and Lemhannas will provide them,” he said. (*)
