He said the total value of Papua exports in that period increased from the previous number of US $ 137.42 million US dollar increased to 247.04 percent compared to the previous month which was only US $ 39.60 million US dollars.

High copper ore and concentrate commodities outperformed other export commodities such as timber and wooden goods and major commodities in the form of plywood, with export value increasing to 8.70 million US dollars. “The type of wood also rose from US $ 4.35 million dollars,” Simon added.

BPS also mention that other non-oil and gas categories experienced a decrease in exports up to 82.47 percent, some of which include paint and varnish 45.80 percent, cigarettes 12.22 percent, and instant noodles 2.60 percent.

While the fish and other aquatic groups in the period worth US $ 128.35 million US dollars came from Amamapare, Mimika Regency.

According to Simon, cumulatively, the total exports of Papua in January-August 2017 amounted to US$ 1,071.92 million US dollars. “It also increased by 4.29 percent compared to total exports from January to August 2016 amounting to US $ 1,027.85 million US dollars,” Simon explained.

The previous high export confidence was conveyed by the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, who mentioned that several export destinations such as China and Japan are in desperate need of commodities from Papua.

“The fishery potential in the Saireri region is one of our priorities, and can be realized as a center for MSME (Small and Medium Enterprises)of the fishing industry,” said Lukas Enembe, some time ago.

In addition to mining commodities, he mentioned the potential of marine products in the Saireri region is also worth developing. He also said that seaweed should be developed for long-term export.

“So far, Papua Province has exported three times directly to China, but only in the form of processed timber,” said Lukas.(*)
