Jayapura, 25/5 ( Jubi ) – A resident demanding compensation for sol from his land almost hit Jayapura Regent Matius Awoitauw with an arrow on Friday (23/5).

The incident happened when Awoitaw visited Khalkote Beach, Asei Village, Sentani Timur Sub-district to monitor preparations for the Sentani Lake Festival (FDS) scheduled for June.
“The Regent was looking around and talking with some workers around the stages with many people surrounding him,” a witness Hans Okoka told tabloidjubi.com in the Khaklote Beach on Sunday (25/5)

“Suddenly, a resident came from behind holding an arrow, angrily and unexpectedly shot towards the regent. Fortunately, the regent and others could evade it,” he said.

Members of the Civil Service Police Unit who guarded the regent arrested that perpetrator, he said.

The suspected attacker is the brother of Village Chief of Asei Besar. He demanded payment for soil taken from his tenure land during last year’s FDS.

Sentani Timur Police Chief Timur L Simanjuntak declined to comment on the incident.
“Sorry, I can’t provide any information. Yesterday, many reporters were at the scene, but they did not expose the story,” he said.

When declined to say whether the regent prohibited the publication of the story. He also declined to say whether the perpetrator was arrested or released. But, a witness said the police did not arrest the perpetrator.

After incident, he was seen sitting in front of his house.
“Maybe he found a kinship resolution with the regent,” the witness said. (Jubi/Albert/rom)
